Bio/Vitae

    Dr. Guy Brewer is a disciple of Jesus Christ who has served as a pastor, chaplain, and professor since 1984.  Dr. Brewer’s educational background includes a degree from Vanderbilt University (B.S.), Emory University (M. Div), and Asbury Theological Seminary (D. Min).
    As an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church, Dr. Brewer served United Methodist churches in Georgia and Florida, including serving as the founding pastor of Edgewater United Methodist Church in Port Charlotte, Florida.  Dr. Brewer’s ministry in higher education includes appointments as campus minister and department chair at the University of Miami (Florida) and as chaplain at Sweet Briar College (Virginia).  He has served as a faculty member in the graduate counseling department at Liberty University and currently serves as Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology at Anderson University School of Theology.
    Dr. Brewer’s areas of scholarship and research include spiritual formation, preaching, and pastoral care in the postmodern context.  His next publication, Poet-Gardener: A Soul Care Model of Preaching, is slated for release in September 2009.  On a personal note, Guy and his wife, Rena have four sons and five grandchildren.

Dr. Brewer is a faculty member within the Anderson University School of Theology. Anderson University School of Theology achieved full accreditation by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) in 1965, and continues to maintain that status for all degree programs. Additionally, the School of Theology has received accreditation of all its degrees from the Higher Learning Commission, North Central Association. Membership is also held in several other organizations devoted to quality education.
